Day 41 – Poplarville, MS to Ocean Springs, MS – 69.17 miles – Elevation: +2,100 / -2,359 feet
Today’s 69 mile route started out with most riders somewhat solemn. Last night we were able to stay in a hurricane evacuation center. Luckily, that got us out of tents so we were safe and dry while nearby towns were being pelleted with 3 inch hailstones. Unfortunately, we were unable to turn off the lights in the evening so it was like sleeping under a streetlight all night. As a result, few of us got a very good night’s sleep. In addition, thunderstorms were forecasted for the whole day. So we really aren’t looking forward to the ride today.
However, as luck would have it, today turned out to be a very pleasant day. It never rained. The route was along back country roads with little traffic. And we were treated to lunch by the Ramsey Creek Baptist Church. It really doesn’t get much better than that.
