MARCH 20, 2015
Day 14 – Rodeo, NM to Columbus, NM – 92.24 miles – Elevation: +1,831 / -1,693 feet
Today was a 93 mile ride, the longest ride of the trip. The ride turned out to be harder than I expected with a 1,830 foot ascent. In addition, the warm temperatures and tailwind that were forecasted never materialized. It was 40 degrees when we started and only got to about 60 degrees at the warmest part of the day making the head winds rather chilly.
Again today there was nothing but scenery. In fact, only 20 or 30 vehicles past us all day and most of them were Border Patrol. It was almost like riding a bike path rather than a road. It took me 7:19 hours to complete the route, finishing just in time for dinner. Luckily, tomorrow is a rest day. I really need it.
